Interstate + Lakeland Lumber, a leading building material product provider in Connecticut and New York, is seeking to hire a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting and Finance team. This hands-on role requires at least three years of public accounting and supervisory experience. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting department, including supervising staff members and preparing financial documents to assist management with critical financial decisions. This role reports to and works closely with the CFO to implement best practice policies and internal controls to ensure the success of accounting and financial reporting endeavors.

Requirements

Recruiting 

  • Facilitate and manage the entire recruiting life cycle, including updating job descriptions, managing the job posting process, sourcing candidates, reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and coordinating interviews with hiring managers. 

  • Conduct recruitment efforts for all exempt and non-exempt positions, students, and temporary employees. 

  • Attracts applicants by placing job advertisements in various job search engines and promoting open positions oncompany website, intranet, and social media platforms. 

  • Build applicant sources by contacting local colleges, trade schools, community services, employment agencies, and recruiters to provide organization information and opportunities, make presentations, and maintain rapport. 

  • Participate in local job fairs and industry association events to create internship opportunities and a pipeline of qualified candidates. 

  • Determines applicant qualifications by interviewing applicants for a consistent set of qualifications, analyzing responses, verifying references, and evaluating candidates’ qualifications to job requirements provided by the managers. 

  • Achieve staffing objectives by evaluating job candidates, presenting them to managers, and providing them with feedback and recommendations based on information submitted interviews, and background search results. 

  • Assist managers in the selection process by discussing applicant’s qualifications with managers. 

  • Updates Applicant Tracking System and recruiting sites during the search process. 

  • Arrange interviews by coordinating schedules and directing applicants accordingly. 

  • Prepare recruitment data analysis to present to upper management. 

Pre-boarding and Onboarding 

  • Initiate background checks, schedule pre-employment medical and drug tests, and prepare offer letters and new hire paperwork. 

  • Prepare orientation materials and ensure smooth integration into the company’s processes to facilitate the onboarding process for new hires. 

  • Coordinate with the recruiting manager and IT department to ensure equipment, IT paperwork, and workspace are properly set up for the new employee’s first day. 

  • Conduct new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward organizational objectives and ensure a smooth integration into the company’s culture. 

  • Participates in the new hire and benefits orientation, which includes reviewing the employee handbook and the company’s policies and procedures. 

Payroll, Benefits, Training, and other Administrative Functions 

  • Responsible for the integrity of employee data in multiple systems and databases and ensuring that status changes, such as pay rates, job transfers, and special payments, are approved, processed, timely, and documented accordingly. 

  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for the HR Department. 

  • Assist with weekly and monthly payroll processing and timekeeping system (ADP Workforce Now). 

  • Monitor and track time & attendance, as well as PTO accruals. 

  • Ensure employees elect or waive benefits promptly. 

  • Enter wage garnishments timely and accurate. 

  • Reconcile monthly insurance invoices and process bills for payment. 

  • Prepare payroll/HR reports such as overtime, headcount, turnover, and special reports. 

  • Maintain employee records and HR procedures, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality. 

  • Assist in developing training programs, and monitor training progress until completion. 

  • Assist with employee leave management, including but not limited to Short Term Disability (STD), Family and Medical Leaves (FMLA), Paid Family Leave (PFL), and Workers Compensation. 

  • Assist with audits, government, and ERISA reporting requirements. 

  • Support company-wide training initiatives and safety programs. 

  • Promote HR programs and support for the HR Director with various HR initiatives, employee engagement activities, and special projects. 

  • Collaborate with human resources to develop and implement consistent policies and training programs that align with the business needs and values.

Required Education, Experience, and Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or seven years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 3 years of ADP workforce now experience 
  • 5 to 7 years of HR generalist experience with emphasis on recruiting. 
  • 3 years of experience in payroll, benefits, and leave management experience. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and HR software. 
  • Ability to multitask, strong organizational skills, project management skills, and people skills. 
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, V-lookup, and advanced formulas. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 7 to 10 Years of well-rounded HR experience. 
  • Previous experience working with labor unions. 
  • Previous HR Experience in a retail environment. 

Work Environment:  This is an in-office position. The noise level is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here represent those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. 

Physical Demands:  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear and use hands to handle or touch objects or controls. 

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

Full-time position. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 

Travel:  Travel to other locations for training and meetings, as necessary.
