Position Summary: As a Yardman, your Yard responsibilities include storing materials, picking loading orders, inventory, forklift operation, deliveries, and customer satisfaction while focusing on safety and efficiency.
Essential Functions
- Works in the warehouse and/or yards, loading and unloading trucks.
- Check and inspect customer vehicles for accuracy of material picked up while in the lumber yard.
- Move materials to and from storage areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, and freight containers by hand or forklift.
- Ensure the yard is cleaned and maintained and materials stored properly, including covering materials as required.
- Maintain inventory supply counts and ensure they are properly organized in the warehouse.
- Receive and process warehouse stock products.
- Perform inventory controls.
- Communicate with the dispatcher to determine work assignments and material/equipment needs.
- Reports all issues regarding inventory shortage, waste, damage, equipment, safety, or other aspects that affect the business of the dispatcher.
- Keeps all machinery and tools clean and in good working order for safe usage.
- Count and write up orders.
- Maintain good working relationships with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Maintain the appearance of the yard and racks in an orderly and clean manner.
- Perform related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
- Load and check customers at the drive-thru.
- Prepare and complete orders for delivery or pickup according to schedule.
- Inspecting paid receipts and merchandise being carried out by customers at checkpoints in the yard.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to write, read, and communicate in English
- Knowledge and experience in construction, building materials, and supplies
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one in 3 months
Preferred Experience:
- 5 years of experience in the distribution center, yard, or warehouse.
- Building materials product knowledge.
- Prior experience in forklift operations.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving forklifts, noise, vibration and extreme weather conditions.
- Physical demands include occasional forklift driving; prolonged lifting, carrying, standing, kneeling, walking, loading, unloading; ability to lift up to 80 pounds at a time, at waist lever, unassisted.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- Full-time position. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
